Winona Reva "Gay" Trimble, 92, Valley Falls, died Monday, May 9, 2011, at Homestead Assisted Living in Topeka, KS.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1919, near McCune, KS, the daughter of Isaac K. and Dora E. Bond Pierson. She graduated from McCune High School in 1936. She received her training as a nurse at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.
Gay had been a registered nurse at Security Benefit Association Hospital in Topeka, Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in Winchester and at other medical facilities. She was a member of the Christian Church and the For-Get-Me-Not Club, both in Valley Falls.
She married Willard Knouse Trimble on Feb. 17, 1942, at Topeka. They moved to Valley Falls in 1947. Gay continued in the nursing field until 1962, when she and Willard purchased the East Cafe, which they operated through 1976. She returned to nursing in 1977 at Valley Health Care Center in Valley Falls until she retired in 1997.
Willard died on March 2, 1977. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Trimble on March 18, 1954.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Trimble, Silverdale, WA, and Larry Trimble, Arkansas City; three daughters, Carolyn Soendker, Burlingame, Betty Perriman, Topeka, and Christine Weaver, Topeka; a brother, Virgil Pierson, Licking, MO; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Valley Falls Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County E.M.S.
