Obituary

Winifred "Goffy" Wabaunsee, 74, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was born January 25, 1951 in Holton, KS, the daughter of Llewellyn "Lou" and Freda J. (Nozhackum) Wabaunsee.

Goffy graduated from Marty Indian School in Marty, SD. She proudly served in the United States Army. Goffy was a member of the Drum Religion, Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and former member of We-Ta-Se Post 410.

She loved feeding everyone and especially cooking at the Pow Wow; known for her Golden Fry Bread.

Survivors include her son, Charles Nez of the home, her forever partner, Alan Wahweotten of Mayetta, KS and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lou and Freda Wabaunsee; 5 sisters, Marsha Ferrari, Louella "Henry" Wabaunsee, Mary "Monnie" Wabaunsee, Frances Wabaunsee and Lois "Louie" R. Dominguez and 3 brothers, Fred Lew Wabaunsee, Richard Wabaunsee and Ralph Wabnum.

Goffy will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Wake and supper will be Saturday evening at Nozhachum Hall. Private Graveside Services will be held at Shipshee Cemetery.
