NONKEN
HOLTON- William Victor "Bill" Nonken, 81, of Holton, KS passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at a Topeka care facility. He was born December 20, 1927 in Peabody, KS, the son of George and Leeta Wilbur Nonken. He graduated in 1946 from Burns High School in Burns, KS. He then served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Bill had worked for the Carpenter's Union and for Ray Anderson's Overhead Doors both in Topeka. He was a member of the American Legion, Eastern Star, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Grand Lodge of Kansas and the Shriners of North America.
He was married to Vestina Nioce on January 5, 1985 in Topeka. She passed away January 24, 2008. He was also preceded by a brother Vernon Nonken.
Survivors include his son, Mike Nonken of Milam, TX; his daughters, Shirley Grosse of Marion, KS, Janie Turner of Fletcher, OK and Sue McGilton of Topeka, KS; his step-son, Cecil Walker of Longwood, FL; his sister, Marjorie Henry of Queen Valley, AZ; his brother, Arnold Nonken of Grove, OK; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in Shipshee Cemetery west of Mayetta, KS.
