Obituary

WILLIAM L. "BILL" LEDERER

William L. "Bill" Lederer, 86, Valley Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Bill was a farmer-stockman west of Valley Falls and was a construction laborer. He was a member of Laborers International Union of North America AFL-CIO Local 142 in Topeka and Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Valley Falls.
He was born on July 1, 1920, at Baldwin City, the son of Clyde Preston and Nancy Ann Kring Lederer. He had attended the Valley Falls United. Methodist Church. He was a Corporal in the 1st Infantry of the US Army during WW II. He was a member of the 1777th Engineers Construction Battalion in the Philippines and was a member of the occupation forces in Japan.
He married VanEtta Charlotte Nowak on Aug. 6, 1941, at Rose Hill. She died on June 12, 1988. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Ann Lederer, on March 25, 1945, two brothers, James Eugene Lederer and Virgil Clyde Lederer, and two sisters, Fannie Burk and Marjorie Lobb.
Survivors include a son, William E. Lederer and his wife Pat, Valley Falls, three daughters, Donna Ross and her husband, David, Valley Falls, Linda Brown, Topeka, and Becky Hutchins and her husband, Joel, Holton; a brother, John E. Lederer, Valley Falls; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial with military honors conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 V.F.W. will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 pm, Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County EMS District 11, Jefferson County Humane Society or to Meals on Wheels and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
