William R. "Bill" Stanley, 89, Topeka, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at Midland Care at Linnwood Park Assisted Living at Valley Falls.

He was born Jan. 24, 1928, at Troy, Vermont, the son of Archibald and Anna Braun Stanley. He graduated from Douglas, KS High School. Bill served in the US Marine Corps for 14 years. He was with the 1st Division, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, in the Pacific Theater in WW II and later in the Korean War.

Bill worked for the US Postal Service, first at Hollywood, CA, and then at Topeka. After his retirement, he worked for Luce Press Clippings in Topeka.

He married Doreen Warrington, Nov. 20, 1959, at Los Angeles, CA. She died Sept. 7, 2005. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Archibald "Buster" Stanley, and a sister, Eileen Nelson.

Survivors include two sons, Dale Stanley, and his wife Pamela, Parker, CO, and Michael Stanley, Topeka; a daughter, Tammie Majors, and her husband, Mark, Meriden; a sister, Maryanna Tucker, Kent, WA; and three granddaughters, Taylor, Morgan, and Lara.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls is in charge of arrangements.
