REED

WETMORE-William G. "Bill" Reed, 85, of Wetmore, KS passed away March 21, 2008 at the Community Hospital in Onaga, KS. He was born February 18, 1923 in Gridley, KS, the son of Henry and Agnes Ogle Reed.
He graduated from Gridley High School in 1940 and attended one year at Wichita State University. Mr. Reed served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He had worked for Whelan's Lumber in Topeka, KS and later owned E & R Construction in Wetmore. He later moved to Rockaway Beach, MO where he owned Reed's Roost Resort for over 15 years. From 2001 to 2003, Bill lived in Oak Grove, MO. He was a member of the Wetmore United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #282, the VFW and the Kiwanis Club all in Wetmore. He served on the USD 441 School Board for approx. 12 years and was very active in the Wetmore community.
Mr. Reed married Dorothy Christy on August 14, 1942 in Burlington, KS she passed away on April 17, 1974 he later married Shirley Hutton in February 1990 she passed away January 8, 2003. He was also preceded in death by a sister Delpha Bahr in October 2003.
Survivors include his daughters, Susie Henry of Seneca, KS and Sandy Mitchell of Dover, KS; his son, David Reed of Manhattan, KS; his brother, Robert Reed of Greenville, SC; his grandchildren, Jason and Christie Henry, Christen and Justin Robinson, Kim and Drew Deever, Lori and Kendra Mitchell; his great grandchildren, Sydney and Jack Henry, Regan and Raelyn Robinson and Chase and Kenady Deever; his step-children, Carlene and Butch Shively and Steve and Joyce Iknow and their families of Kansas City.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Wetmore Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
