WILLIAM M. BARKER
VALLEY FALLS - William Menzies Barker, 62, Valley Falls, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka.
He was a pressman at the State of Kansas Printing Plant in Topeka for 30 years. He was a member of the the American Legion and the former Masonic Lodge No. 21 AF & AM in Valley Falls.
He was born Aug. 4, 1944, at Detroit, MI, the son of LeRoy Giles and Lillian Menzies Barker. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1962 and later attended Wasburn University. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He married Sharon Ellen Layton on Feb. 7, 1969, at Topeka.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Barker, Valley Falls; three sons, Robert Menzies Barker, in Delaware, William Bradley Barker, Houston, TX, and Rodger Alan Barker, Valley Falls; two daughters, Laura Lea Barker, Valley Falls, and Heather Ellen Barker, Topeka; his mother, Lillian Barker, Linwood; two brothers, Robert Barker, Linwood, and Bradley Barker, Lawrence; a sister, Betty Thoennes, Eudora,, and one granddaughter.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2007, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
