SOLDIER- Wayne D. Pollock, 84, of Soldier, passed away December 10, 2009 at the Holton Community Hospital. He was born January 6, 1925 in Soldier, KS the son of Walter C. and Sara Dunn Pollock.
He graduated from Soldier High School in 1942, after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII. He lived for over 60 years in Avoca (the Bucks Grove community) as a farmer and earlier this year moved to Holton. He was a member of the American Legion Post #333 in Havensville, served on the Cross Creek Watershed Board for 20 years and was a member of the Old Timers/Hounds Club in Havensville.
Wayne married Edwina "Winnie" Capsey on February 15, 1947 in Olathe, KS. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Dan Pollock (Carol) of Havensville, KS; a daughter, Janet Trainor (David) of Santa Fe, MO; a daughter in law, Cynthia Pesselato of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren, Dana Kemp (Ian), Carrie Baxter (Matt), Sara Philipi(Danny), Wendy Milner (Rick), Patty Knutson, Dustin Pollock and Sean Pollock and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Pollock; two sisters, Carol Starr and Velma Jean Pollock and two brothers, Gerald and Charles Keith Pollock.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Officiating will be Reverend Ora Martindale. Music will be by Jim Baxter. Interment will be in the Olive Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Dustin Pollock, Sean Pollock, Thad Starr, Neil Starr, Raynard Barnes, and Kenny Barnes. Honorary pallbearers are: Eugene Bottom, Eddie Thompson, Danny Warren, Nile Fowler, Pat Kennedy and Mike Kennedy. Family will greet friends from 1:00 - 3:00p.m. Sunday afternoon.
