Wayne A. Church Jr., 72, Valley Falls, died Monday, January 21, 2019, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.
He was born August 19, 1946, at Oskaloosa, the son of Wayne A. and Velma O. Petitt Church Sr. He graduated from Ozawkie High School in 1964.
Wayne retired in 2006, from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka, after 36 years of service. He was a member of United Steel Workers Local 307. Wayne attended Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls.
He married Carol J. Abel, November 12, 1966, at Oskaloosa. She died November 3, 2012. He was also preceded in death by three grandchildren, Joshua Eugene Montgomery, Cheyenne Marie Church and Jacob Noll; his father, Wayne Church Sr. and a brother, Fred Church.
During his retirement Wayne enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO, helping friends and family with building projects and working at Country Harvest Apple Market in Valley Falls.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Church, Valley Falls, and Brian Church, Topeka; three daughters, Barb (Rick) Coleman, Eudora, and Teresa (James) Montgomery and Tammy (Brad) Wynkoop, all of Valley Falls; his mother, Velma Church, Oskaloosa; a brother, David (Sharon) Church, Valley Falls; two sisters, Jan (Gary) Goodin, Muscotah, and Jo Ann (Steve) Adams, Oskaloosa; 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
