Warren L. "Jackie Matt" Mattwaoshe, 74, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at his home. He was born August 11, 1933 in Mayetta, KS the son of Andrew and Stella M. Whitefish Mattwaoshe.
He attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1966. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received a Vietnam Service Medal and he was qualified as a Sharpshooter. After serving for the military, he worked for the Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Muskogee, OK. He had lived in Muskogee, OK for 28 years and lived in Mayetta for the last 14 years.
He was a member of the Drum Religion, Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He married Erma Lynn Abbott on June 5, 1982 in Topeka, KS. She survives. Other survivors include a step-son Michael Duayne Dison of Topeka, KS, 3 sisters Clarice Broxterman of Topeka, KS, Ramona Micco of Lawrence, KS, Kathleen Nemeth of Manhattan, KS and 3 step grandsons.
Drum services will be Thursday evening, September 20, 2007 at the Danceground Building in Mayetta. Burial will be in the Potts Cemetery Friday afternoon. He will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton until 3:00 p.m. Thursday.
