Virginia J. (Barnes) Hune, 82, of Holton died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Holton Hospital.
She was born on March 5, 1924 outside of Holton. She was the daughter of Jim and Anna Jenkins Barnes. She attended a country grade school before moving into town, where she finished grade school and graduated from Holton High School in 1942.
In 1943 she went to Wichita and worked for Swallow Airplane Factory, until the war was over. On December 28, 1951 Virginia married Dean Hune. She worked for the Gas Service Company in Holton for 14 years. Virginia and Dean moved to Kansas City in 1956 were she worked for the Gas Service Company until 1966, when they moved back to Holton. She worked for her brother Rex of Rex Barnes Motors for a short time and for her brother Bob of Barnes Title and Abstract until she retired in 1989.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Pilot Club, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was involved in the construction and development of the Southern Heights Building.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bob Barnes. Virginia is survived by her husband, Dean and a brother, Rex Barnes of Holton, and many, many friends in Holton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
