HOLTON – Virginia May Pfister Dannenberg, 92, of Holton, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton. She was born July 5, 1917, in rural Hiawatha, KS, the youngest of ten children born to John W. and Flora May Lewis Pfister.
She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1935. Virginia married James Robert Dannenberg on February 24, 1939. They lived and farmed twelve years in Brown County, KS before moving to Holton in 1951. They owned and operated Dannenberg Implement Company for 26 years where they sold John Deere and Massey Ferguson farm equipment. After closing the business, Virginia worked at Gambles Hardware store in Holton for several years. She was a homemaker and one of her greatest joys was having her family home for holiday dinners.
She was a long time member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton where she served on numerous committees. She was also a long time member of the Tourist Club.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband on July 30, 1977; a daughter, Karen Moore on November 28, 2005; and seven sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a daughter, Frances Gibson of Tucson, AZ; sons, Charles Dannenberg of Holton and James Robert Dannenberg, II of Perry, KS; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Virginia will lie in state at the funeral home until service time. Burial will be at the Holton Cemetery.
