Obituary

Virgil Stacey "S'ewṫēp" Walker, Jr., 49, of Lawrence, KS, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at his home with family by his side. He was born November 25, 1971 in Marshalltown, IA, the son of Virgil Walker, Sr. and Cherie Johnson.

Virgil was raised on the Prairie Band Reservation by his Misho, Garnett David Potts and Koko, Virginia Pushetonequa Potts.

He worked for Highland Construction in Lawrence. Virgil was a member of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa; belonging to the Meskwaki Tribe. He was also a member of the Native American Religion.

He married Evelyn Coho in April 1997 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughter, Tyra Walker of Lawrence, KS; mother, Cherie "Betiko Walker of Tama, IA; 2 step-sons, Drew Frazier and Tilman Frazier both of Independence, MO; 6 sisters, Alice Beem of Mayetta, KS, Rosan Potts of Mayetta, KS, Virgene Smith of Des Moines, IA, Oshpuk Hubbard of Lawrence, KS, Arian Johnson-Milton of Des Moines, IA and Kristine Johnson-Ivory (Vincent) of Perry, IA and 4 brothers, Benny Joseph Potts of Mayetta, KS, Richard Horton (Amy) of MN, Roger Walker (Molly) of Tama, IA and Jim Potts of Mayetta, KS.

He was preceded in death by Misho, Garnett David Potts; Koko, Virginia Pushetonequa; father, Virgil Walker, Sr.; Koko, Carol Keahna; Medo, John Johnson, Sr.; sister, Evelyn Hopkins and brother, B.J. Potts.

Wake and Ttibekwe will be Tuesday afternoon, August 31, 2021at Potts Homeplace (13862 O. Rd., Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation). Burial will be Wednesday morning at Potts Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
