VERNON CHARLES BARROW
Vernon Charles "Red" Barrow, 65, Valley Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, as a result of an ice fishing accident east of Valley Falls.
He was born Dec. 3, 1941, at Holton, the son of Vernon L. and Lou Gilliland Barrow. Red was a graduate of Denison Rural High School. He was in the U.S. Navy for four years and served on the U.S.S. Wiltsie during the Vietnam War. He was a pipe fitter at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka, retiring after 36 years of service. He had been a resident of Valley Falls for many years.
Red had a passion for the outdoors and the environment. His favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting and sharing his knowledge of these sports. His family and friends were his first priority in his life and he will be greatly missed.
He married Deborah K. Haas, on Dec. 3, 1981, at Valley Falls. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Edith Barrow and Charles and Floy Gilliland and his father, Vernon Barrow.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah, Valley Falls; two sons, Sam Barrow, Valley Falls, and Willie Barrow, Kansas City, KS; two stepsons, Zac Brown, Arvada, CO and Lace Brown, Valley Falls; his mother, Lou Barrow, Denison; four brothers; Ray Barrow, Holton, Bill Barrow and Dan Barrow, both of Denison, and Leo Barrow, Hutchinson; two sisters, Sharon Barrow and Dee Petree, both of Holton; five grandchildren and other stepchildren and step grandchildren.
A celebration of Red's life will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at the hunting and fishing club that he owned one mile east of Valley Falls on K-16 Highway.
