Obituary

Velma Catherine Morris, 78, of Rossville, KS and formerly of Topeka, KS, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the Oakley Place of Rossville. She was born April 2, 1944, the daughter of Bernard A. Niehues, Jr. and Alfreda Teresa (Kramer) Niehues.

Velma's most recent employment was as a Retirement Benefit Specialist for KPERS where she worked for over 16 years before retiring in 2004.

She married Merwin D. "Bud" Morris on February 3, 1962 in Corning, KS; he preceded her in death on July 8, 2012, after 50 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Alfreda Niehues, Jr.; son, David D. Morris; one sister and 3 brothers.

Survivors include her son, Stephen "Steve" Morris of Topeka; 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

Velma will lie in state Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Midland Hospice or Helping Hands Humane Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
