Valent F. Swanson, 68, of Mayetta, KS passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Village Villa in Nortonville, KS. He was born June 9, 1949 in Phillipsburg, PA the son of Gilbert and Catherine (Idjzotic) Swanson.
Valent attended Spring Grove High School in Pennsylvania. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during Vietnam. He lived in Mayetta for about 3 years and lived over 43 years in Pennsylvania. Valent was a construction foreman for Kinsley Construction in PA.
He was a member of Light House Bible Church in Topeka, East Berlin V.F.W., Hanover Moose Lodge, American Legion, Marine Corp League, Eagle Riders and Cooties.
Valent married Sonia N. Godfrey on January 22, 1972 in PA. She survives of the home. Other survivors include 1 daughter, Tami Shoemaker (Brad) of Holton, KS; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer Norris (Joe) and Julia Donaldson (Brentt); a agreat-granddaughter, Adeline Norris; a sister, Melinda Illyes of Florida and a brother, Richard Swanson of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angie Swanson and a brother, Allen Swanson.
Funeral Services will be Friday, December 29, 2017 at Feiser Funeral Home in East Berlin, PA. Burial will follow in East Berlin Union Cemetery. Local memorials may be given to the V.A. Hospital in Topeka or Avalon Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
