Thomas Lyle Sanders, 84, Topeka, formerly of Lawrence, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Westwood Manor in Topeka.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1925, at Lillis, KS, the son of John Thomas and Edith Katherine Cain Sanders.
Tom was a custodian at Hayworth and Summerfield residence halls at the University of Kansas at Lawrence. He had also worked at the Diehel Meat Processing Plant at Valley Falls.
He married Fay Whitacre on Aug. 23, 1980, at Lawrence. She died on Jan. 14, 2006. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Smith and Mary Maxine Sanders; a step daughter, Pam Cooley, and a step son, Kenneth Gray.
Survivors include two nieces, Maggie Smith, Lyndon, and Jeanneane Watson, Topeka; two step daughters, Gail Freeman, Lawrence, and Linda Brandt, California, and many other nephews, nieces and cousins.
Body donation was made to the KU Medical Center. Inurnment will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
