THOMAS M. ABRAMOVITZ

Thomas M. Abramovitz, 78, Valley Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at his home west of Valley Falls after a 15 month struggle with leukemia.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1932, at Kansas City, KS, the son of Thomas A. and Josephine Michalski Abramovitz. He graduated from Turner High School in 1950 and served in the US Navy from 1951-55 during the Korean War.
Tom had lived at Valley Falls since 1964 and was a dairyman and farmer. He was a member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Valley Falls. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6671 and served as Grand Knight for four years. He was a board member for the Leavenworth-Jefferson Rural Electric Cooperative for six years.
He married Marjorie Flint on July 19, 1957, at Leavenworth. She died on Feb. 8, 1989. He married Patricia Brunson on Nov. 3, 1990, at Valley Falls. She survives at the home.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Irene Potter Abramovitz: a brother, Raymond Abramovitz; two stepbrothers, Gene Potter and Carl Potter; and a stepsister, Goldie Knudson.
He is survived by two sons, David (Lisa) Abramovitz, Valley Falls, and Tommy Abramovitz, Kalispell, MT; four daughters, Tamera (Ed) Dinger, and Teresa (Larry) Stephens, all of Valley Falls, Cindy (Jamie) Griffitts, Marion, KS, and Ruth (Mike) McGlory, Topeka; two stepsons, Mark (Anita) Hendricks, and Mike (Julie) Hendricks, all of Ottawa; two stepdaughters, Julie (Pat) Sieve, Valley Falls, and Rhonda (David) Moran, Osage City; a brother, Ralph Abramovitz, Tonganoxie; two sisters, Florence Courtney, McLouth, and Mary Heintzelman, Leavenworth; three stepsisters, Gladys Cappacious, Oskaloosa, Betty Harmon, Belleville, PA, and Mary Louise Peters, McLouth; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military honors by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, V.F.W. A Rosary followed by a visitation will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Building Fund for the new entrance to the church and sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 6, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
