Therma M. Zabel, 98, of Valley Center, KS, formerly of Wetmore, KS, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at a Sedgwick, KS care facility. She was born September 18, 1912 in Soldier, KS the daughter of George and Pearl Blankley Thomas.
Therma grew up in Whiting, KS where she graduated from Whiting High School in 1931 and taught elementary school near Whiting. She moved to Wetmore, KS in 1933 where she lived for 18 years before moving to the Wichita area in 1951. Therma worked for Beech Aircraft for 23 years. She was a 50 year member of Chapter #287 of the Order of Eastern Star in Whiting and the Methodist Church.
She was married to Wayne W. Zabel on December 2, 1933 in Platte City, MO. Wayne passed away in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son, Warren Zabel and her grandson, Kirk Alan Zabel both in 1962. Survivors include her sons, Larry Zabel (Sandra) of Valley Center, KS and Dwayne Zabel (Glenda) of Belle Plaine, KS; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS. Interment will be in Wetmore Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Therma Zabel Memorial Fund to designated later c/o Mercer Funeral Home PO Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
