Thelma Fern Tichenor, 84, Valley Falls, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.
She was born on Aug. 10, 1926, south of Denison, the daughter of Brice C. and Laura A. Bolz Duffield. She graduated from Point Pleasant Rural Grade School. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Falls.
Thelma was a homemaker and had worked at Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton. She married Calvin W. Tichenor on Dec. 4, 1952, in Topeka. They lived in the Rock Creek and Meriden communities. Mr. Tichenor died on June 16, 1997.
Survivors include three sons, Carlos (Jerie) Tichenor, Hoyt, Curtis (Kim), Branson, CO, and Dennis (Jennifer) Tichenor, Valley Falls; two daughters, Pam (Randy) Mitchell, Hickman, NE and Esther (Mark) Askren, Hutchinson; two brothers, John Duffield, Valley Falls, and Willard Duffield, Hoyt; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at Muddy Creek Cemetery, northwest of Meriden.
