Stephen R. Shove, 64, of Topeka died Saturday, August 14, 2010 at his home. He was born on September 10, 1945 in Onaga, KS. Steve was the son of Richard and Margie Lister Shove. He graduated from Holton High School in 1963 and from Mechanic's School in Kansas City, MO. He was a mechanic for several auto dealers in Topeka. Steve then worked for the Topeka Fire Department as a mechanic; he retired as the Fleet Service Supervisor after 26 years of service.
Steve married Mary Lu Scheidegger on February 19, 1965 in Mayetta. She preceded him in death on September 9, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Margie Shove in December 1989. Steve married Carol Runnion on June 24, 2000. She survives. He is survived by his dad and step-mom, Richard and Marlene Shove of Holton; step-children, Sheri and Mark Perkins of Atlanta, GA, Terri and Aaron Jones of Onaga and Kelly and Lisa Williams of Paxico; a step-brother, Matt Asher of Holton and six step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be in the Phillipsburg Cemetery in Phillipsburg, KS at a later date. Steve will lie in state Tuesday afternoon until the service.
