She was born on Feb. 6, 1944, at Masardis, Maine, the daughter of Floyd Adonis and Marie Marguerite Pelletier York. She graduated from high school in Bangor, Maine.
Sonia worked as a health care professional until she married Henson James "Jim" Yount on Jan. 1, 1970. She and Jim worked together as lobbyists until their retirement. They were noted as "an imposing couple" working for causes they believed in at the Kansas State House. She had attended the Rock Creek Bible Church.
Sonia and Jim moved to Valley Falls in 1972 and worked together on their Mini-Red farm caring for a variety of domesticated animals and wildlife, and raising a garden and fruit trees. Jim died on Aug. 20, 2001.
Sonia continued to care for others, working at LinnWood Place, the Jefferson County Geriatric Center at Winchester, with Meals on Wheels, doing private home care and looking after an animal sanctuary. She will be missed!
