TURNER
HOLTON- Shirley Kay Turner, 69, of Holton, formerly of Topeka, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Medicalodges Jackson County.
She was born June 4, 1937 in Natoma, KS, the daughter of Earl J. and Katherine Funk Christman. She had moved back to Holton from Topeka this summer. She lived in Denison for 10 years and in Holton for 10 years before moving to Topeka in the late 1980's.
Shirley was a professional dancer in her early years before opting to get married and raise her family. She had worked as director of food services at the Kansas Rehabilitation Center in Topeka. She had also worked as a cook at Wanamaker Elementary School and Washburn Rural High School in Topeka. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton.
She was married to Thomas Wayne Turner on September 18, 1953 in Topeka. They were later divorced. She is survived by 4 daughters, Cheryl Copeland and her husband, Gerald of Holton, KS, Traci Kitrell of Holton, KS, Shanna Brandenburgh and her husband, Kevin of Jackson, MO and Jeni Turner of Omaha, NE; her son, Chris Turner and his wife, Kim of Topeka, KS; her sister, Vicki McMurdo of Tecumseh, KS; her brothers, Don Christman and Duane Christman both of Topeka, KS; 10grandchildren and her long-time friend and companion, Steve Bohnenkemper of Holton, KS.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Medicalodges Jackson County or Holton Comm.
