Samuel Delbert Carriker, 82, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. He was born September 15, 1935 in Roscoe, MO, the son of Ulysses E. and Nancy E. (Kelly) Carriker.
Samuel graduated from Eddyville Oregon High School and Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, OR. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 – 1962 during the Korean Conflict. Samuel had lived in the Mayetta community since 2005. He previously lived in Council Bluffs, IA from 1991 -2005 and Hoquiam, WA for 20 years.
He was a welder all of his life. Samuel attended Mayetta Christian Church. He was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Samuel was also a Scout Master for several years.
He married Donna Rae Phillips on May 28, 1955 on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX; they celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Carriker of the home; 4 sons, Terry Carriker (Trill) of Porter, WA, Gene Carriker (Dona) of Rochester, MN, Zane Carriker of Sarasota, FL and Mark Carriker (Teresa) of Hoquiam, WA; 3 daughters, Beth Carriker of Mayetta, KS, Jude Gentry (Russ) of Edwardsville, KS and Wendy Miller (Bill) of Lancaster, KS; a sister, Earline Rider of Lehi, UT; 29 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Keith Carriker in 2000 and a grandson, Casey Carriker in 2007; both while serving in the United States Army.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Mayetta Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Samuel Carriker Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
