HOLTON- S. Frances Knowles, 94, of Holton, died Friday, November 10, 2006 at a care facility in Olathe, KS. She was born July 24, 1912 in Stanberry, MO, the daughter of Lonnie and Anna Martha Marticke Rowe.
She graduated from Stanberry High School in 1930 and lived in Colby, KS from 1932 to 1991. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton and the Order of Eastern Star in Colby. She was involved in many other various civic activities during her life.
She was married to George Taylor on January 24, 1933. He died April 21, 1959. She was married to Willard Knowles on December 22, 1962. He survives. Other survivors include his sisters, Rachel Thomas and Virginia Yocum both of Cameron, MO, her sister-in-law, Dorothy Porter, her niece, Linda Skaggs, nephews, J. Clifford Myers, Rodney L. Rowe, Edward Thomas Rowe and Curtis W. Thomas. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters Ethel Wilson, Lena Myers, Hellen Petry; and 2 brothers Thomas Rowe and Edward Rowe.
Memorial service for Mrs. Knowles will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Beck-Bookman Library sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
