Ruth D. Sedlak, 91, Winchester, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at a Gardner Hospital.
She was born Feb. 12, 1918, at Winchester, the daughter of Dr. David M. and Jessie A. Mitchell Dill. She graduated from Winchester Rural High School in 1935. She attended Kansas State Agricultural College for one year and later graduated from Lamson Business College in Phoenix, AZ.
Ruth was the founder of the Sedlak Insurance and Real Estate Agency in Winchester. She was a Licensed Insurance Agent for all lines of insurance in Kansas and Missouri, was a Graduate of Realtors Institute and was a Licensed Broker in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. She was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kansas, Professional Insurance Agents, National and Kansas Associations of Realtors, Farm and Land Institute of National Association of Realtors. She had served as Clerk of the District 107 School Board and also secretary of the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital Benefit Horse Show. Ruth had attended both the Winchester Reformed Presbyterian Church and the Winchester Christian Church.
She married James J. Sedlak on Dec. 31, 1938, in New Mexico. He died in May 2004. She was also preceded in death by a son, John F. Sedlak on Jan. 7, 1980, and a brother, Ret. Col. Robert M. Dill.
Survivors include her son, Dan Sedlak, and his wife Jo Ann, Winchester, two grandchildren, Sarah Anna Carney, and her husband Mark, Olathe, and Mark Timothy Sedlak, Winchester, and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Faith Carney and Jett B. Pedersen.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at the Winchester Reformed Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery at Winchester. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m., until service time.
