Roy E. Sewell, 97, of Holton, KS passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Medicalodge Jackson County. He was born December 13, 1918 in Kansas, the son of Hubert and May (Powers) Sewell.


Roy attended country schools near Granada, KS and farmed in the Granada area in his early years. Roy also worked for Ohse Meats and Hills Pet Nutrition both in Topeka. He later worked as a roofer and in construction with Howard Irick, retiring in the late 1990's.


Roy married Lois M. Niehaus on December 23, 1939 in Hiawatha. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a son, Don Sewell in 1981; 3 sisters, Grace McDaniel, Helen Gilbert and Mildred Lynn and a brother, H.P. "Sonny" Sewell.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sledd of Kansas City, KS and a grandson, John H. Mellies of Huntington Beach, CA.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Netawaka Cemetery.
