Obituary

Rose Ann Staab, 93 of Garden City formerly of Valley Falls, KS, died Monday October 17, 2011 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. Rose was born February 3, 1918 in Jefferson County, the daughter of Harry B. and Edythe Mallory Martin.

Rose had lived in Valley Falls until she moved to Garden City in the early 1980's and later moved to Lakin. Rose attended Benedictine College and Emporia State. Rose was a farmwife and a schoolteacher for 30 years. She taught at Rock Creek, Valley Falls, Oskaloosa, Halfmound and Williamstown.

Rose married Elmer Wendlin Staab on September 23, 1950 in Valley Falls. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1961. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Edith Staab on September 27, 2007; her sister, Glena May Bolz; her brothers, Gorby Martin, Burley Martin, Nelson Martin and Chalmer Martin. Rose is survived by her grandson, Matt Truong of Lenexa, KS; and a sister, Daisy Kristofek of Bristol, VA.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 22, 2011 at Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Valley Falls Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association c/o Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 6, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
