Romona E. Powers, 81, of Holton, KS passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at her home. She was born January 8, 1936 in Hazlehurst, MS the daughter of Henry C. and Ruth J. (Chancelor) Brent.


Romona attended school in Albany, CA. She had lived in Holton since 1978 and previously in Ohio. She worked for Slimaker Dress Factory in Onaga for over 20 years and also worked as a bartender at Lucy's Tavern in Holton. She was a practicing Southern Baptist.

She was cared for by family members: Peggie Zirger, Tara Elliott, and Shirley Pennington.

Survivors include a sister, Ruby E. Behrends of Burlington, KS; 9 nieces; 3 nephews and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Ruth Rogers; 2 brothers, Marvin Leroy Brent and William Henry Brent and a great-great-nephew, Travis Ketron in 2016.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Ramona Powers Memorial Fund made out to: Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
