Obituary

Rollie M. "Rod" Stephens, 83, of Nortonville passed away Wednesday July 31st, 2013.

He was born August 30, 1929 in Ozawkie, Kansas the son of Alvora and Caryl (May) Stephens. Rollie proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a combat engineer. Before and after his service in Korea he worked at Jefferson County Road Department. He later went on to work at Rathert's Construction for many years until his retirement. On October 27, 1951 he married Dolores Reichart in Van Buren, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2006.

Rollie is survived by: his sons, Larry Dean Stephens (Teresa) of Valley Falls, KS, Harold Lee Stephens (Rick Enweiler) of TN and Bradley Ray Stephens (Judy) of Holton, KS; his daughters, Carol Beth Wilken of Denison, KS and Mary Lou Clark (David) of Valley Falls, KS; his brother Richard Stephens of MO; and his 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Loren "Bud" and Clayton Stephens, his sisters, Eleanor Seifert, Delpha Kirkham, Leola Oroke and Ona Wells.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow in Coal Creek Cemetery with full military honors. The family will greet friends Friday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Jefferson County Hospice or Coal Creek Cemetery and may be left in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 6, Valley Falls 66088.
