ROBERT H. ZIEG
Robert H. Zieg, 63, Valley Falls, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at his home.
Bob was pastor of Rock Creek Bible Church at Meriden from 1976-1998. He and his wife, Marilyn, built and managed LinnWood Place Assisted Living in Valley Falls from 1998-2006.
He had served as Mayor of Valley Falls since 2005. He was a member of the Valley Falls Lions Club and was a past president of the Valley Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Falls Senior Citizens. He served on the Delaware Township Board, the Valley Falls Economic Development Council and was a Chaplain for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept. He was an Assistant Funeral Director for Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. He had been a volunteer fireman at Meriden.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1944, at McCook, NE, the son of Harold L. and Ruth Elizabeth Long Zieg. He graduated from University High School in Lincoln, NE in 1962. He received both a B.S. and M.S. degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC. He received a Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1976.
He married Marilyn R. Knuth on Aug. 6, 1967, at Oxford, NE.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn, Valley Falls; a son Ivan Zieg, and his wife Melissa, Omaha, NE; two daughters, Johanna Gelatt and her husband, Micah, Valley Falls, and Jessica Zieg, Kansas City, MO; a brother, Roger Zieg and his wife, Cami, Woodland, CA, and five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, at Rock Creek Bible Church. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 pm, Thursday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock Creek Bible Church, Gideons International or the basketball court project at the Valley Falls City Park and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
