SHOVE
ONAGA- Robert Shove, 82, of Onaga, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at a Topeka care facility.
He was born January 13, 1924 in the English Ridge community near Havensville, Kansas, the son of Paul and Mary Gibson Shove. He graduated from Havensville High School in 1942. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Bob lived most of his life in the Onaga community before moving to Topeka several years ago. He had operated his own plumbing service in Onaga early in his life and later served as Postmaster in Onaga for many years. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Onaga. He had served on the Onaga City Commission and was Mayor of Onaga for several years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Onaga Lions Club.
He was married to Marjorie J. Zehner on September 27, 1944 at the Pottawatomi United Methodist Church west of Mayetta. She survives. Other survivors include his son; Craig Shove and his wife, Jeanne of Kansas City, KS; his daughter, Natalie Poorman and her husband, Tom of Wichita, KS; his brother, Richard Shove and his wife, Marlene of Holton; his grandchildren, Janel Leopold, Mike Poorman, Cameron, Corey and Sarah Shove and 5 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the Onaga Congregational Church. Interment will be in Onaga Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. He will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Onaga.
