Robert Lee Rye Jr., 62, of Holton, KS, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 5th, 2020 after a six-month battle with cancer. He was born on July 17th, 1958 in Lynwood, CA, the son of Robert Lee Rye Sr. and Rozann (Martin) Rye.
Robert proudly served in the United States Navy and retired as a Command Sergeant Major in the California State Military Reserve. Before moving to Kansas in 2006, Robert worked as a Certified Food and Beverage Executive and Chef at many prestigious hotels and famous restaurants in Southern California. In more recent years Robert worked for the Sac & Fox Tribe as Gaming Commissioner. He worked at Valeo Recovery Center as well as a Corrections Officer in Topeka, KS.
Robert also did custom leather work on the side. He was a creative man of many talents who loved music and fishing.
Robert is survived by the love of his life, Jinnie M. Rye; his mother, Rozann Martin; his daughter and son-in-law, Season and Daniel M. Brown; son, Robert Lee Rye III; 3 sisters, Rebecca A. Rye, Rosalie M. Rye and Mary K. Alford; 2 brothers, Thomas D. Rye and Richard B. Marx and 5 grandchildren, Chloe, Jack, Cash, Carson and Robert Lee Rye IV. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Rye Sr.
A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Mercer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
