Larue Shopteese
January 31, 1935 – November 28, 2021
Mayetta – Robert "Shuckahosee" Larue Shopteese, 86, of Mayetta, KS passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was the son of King P. and Mary "Mae" Ruth (Williams) Shopteese.
Robert worked as engine mechanic for Santa Fe and the Union Pacific Railroad for over 35 years. Robert was a lifelong mechanic and certified electrician for the United States Navy and Union Pacific Railroad. Outside of work, he enjoyed working on dirt stock racing cars with the "good ole boys" in the Midwest.
He served in the United States Navy as a mechanic on the USS Hector during the Korean War from 1952 – 1960 and was honorably discharged.
Robert was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation and the American Legion We-Ta-Se Post #410.
Survivors include a daughter, Vena Rodriguez of Long Beach, California; 2 sons, Raymond May of Everett, WA and Toney May (Holly) of Des Moines, WA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, King P. and Mary; sister, Shirley Munoz; and brother, John Toney Shopteese.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Shipshee Cemetery on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation. A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M.
