HOYT-Robert H. "Sarge" Hegemann, Senior Master SGT, Ret., 79, Hoyt, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, at a Topeka hospital, after a three and one-half month illness.
He was born on June 15, 1930, at Omaha, NE, the son of William and Helen Gould Hegemann.
Bob was a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, working as an Air Traffic Controller, and retired after twenty-three years of service. He had been stationed in England, California, Illinois, Okinawa, Kansas, Oklahoma and Germany. During the Vietnam War he was at Tan San Nhut Air Force Base. He worked at the US Postal Service in Topeka for twenty years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of American Legion Post 401 in Topeka and had served on the Hoyt City Council and Hoyt Volunteer Fire Dept.
Bob enjoyed camping and boating with his family and was a life-long Nebraska Cornhusker Football fan.
He married Jacque L. Roediger on Sept. 9, 1950, at Topeka. She survives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Hegemann, and a granddaughter, Rebecca Kay Hegemann.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Hegemann (Linda), and David Hegemann (Penny), all of Mayetta, and Joe Hegemann (Gina), Hoyt; a daughter, Chris Hegemann, Mayetta; a brother, Richard Hegemann, Bellevue, NE; a sister, Donna Anderson, Carter Lake, IA; nine grandchildren and six great-granddaughters.
The memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Hoyt United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at the Mayetta Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hoyt United Methodist Church and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 270, Holton, KS 66436. GO BIG RED !!!!
