ROBERT MARVIN GIER
Robert Marvin Gier, 78, Valley Falls, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at a Holton care facility.
He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Jefferson County Road and Bridge Dept., the Kansas Dept. of Transportation at Oskaloosa and Coleman and Krumery Construction at Ozawkie. He was also a farmer and rancher.
He was born Nov. 21, 1928, at Valley Falls, the son of John Henry and Emma Lafone Rose Gier. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1946. He served in the military police of the US Army.
He married A. Arlene Scarlett on Oct. 9, 1947, at Nortonville. He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, a daughter, Gail Arlene Gier, a grandson, Tom Gier, and a granddaughter, Liyah Marie Gier.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Gier, Valley Falls; four sons, Richard Gier, and his wife, Sue, Dodge City, Randel Gier and his wife, Marian, Holton, Ryan Gier, and his wife, Jolene, and Marlin Gier and his wife, Christie, all of Valley Falls; a daughter, Jean Carder, and her husband, Doug, Louisburg; a sister, Leona Jean Rossell, Girard, OH; fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday. March 20, 2007, at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
