Obituary

Robert "Bob" E. Mathena, 80, of Mayetta, KS passed away July 17, 2013 at Medicalodge Jackson County. He was born January 2, 1933 in Horton, KS the son of Arthur B. and Gwendolyn (Jones) Mathena.

Bob graduated from Everest High School in 1951. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Bob worked for Goodyear Tire Company and retired in 1988 after 37 years of service.

Bob formerly attended Hoyt United Methodist Church. He was a 50 year member of the AF & AM #327 of Hoyt (which later merged with Mayetta) and a 50 year member of Eastern Star. He was a member of Scottish Rite Topeka Consistory, Arab Shrine, American Legion and VFW Post #400 all of Topeka.

He married Anolene "Annie" Ricketts on August 29, 1954 in Cummings, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include 2 daughters, Roberta Schuh (Jon) of Mayetta and Connie Peters (Jeff) of Hoyt; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Schuh, Brian Schuh (Beka), Dustin Schuh (Brittany), Joshua Peters (Meagan) and Robert Peters and 5 great-grandchildren, Braxon, Brogan, Blaine, Piper Schuh and Levi Peters.

Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Lynn Mathena in 1963; 2 sisters, Hester Lehn and Blanche Mathena and a brother, Daniel Mathena.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Hoyt Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Arab Shrine Travel Fund for Crippled Children c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
