Obituary

Robert E. Deinlein, 75, of Holton, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 in Topeka, Kansas. He was born September 1, 1948 in Mexico, Missouri, the son of Ray O. Deinlein and Katherine E. (Stevenson) Deinlein. Bob was orphaned at a young age and grew up in an orphanage until he was 14.

Bob joined the United States Army in 1968 during the Vietnam War.  He volunteered and served three tours of duty in Vietnam from 1968 to 1975.  Bob earned the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam from September 1969 and December 1970. Bob later joined the United States Navy and retired from his military service in 1982.

Bob married Bonnie Elaine Gleason in Topeka in 2015. In recent years, Bob and Bonnie lived at Village Villa Care Facility in Nortonville and Medicalodges in Holton.  Bob will be remembered for his generosity, always doing for others and caring for his wife, Bonnie.

Survived include his wife, Bonnie; longtime friend and care provider, Melissa Morse and sister- in- law, Coila Rush.

Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2023 at Keene Cemetery in Keene, Kansas. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements. Memorial may be given to the Holton V.F.W. Post 1367 c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
