HOLTON- Robert L. Brock, 82, of Holton, KS passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at a Topeka hospital. Bob was born July 3, 1929 in Nemaha County near Wetmore, KS. He was the youngest of 4 children born to Mirl and Mary (Kissel) Brock. He attended schools in Kansas and Nebraska including Circleville High School.
At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. As a military policeman, Bob served in Japan, France, the Korean Conflict and several locations in the States, the last being Fort Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks. Mr. Brock, a lifetime law enforcement officer, served as Jackson County Undersheriff and Sheriff. He was Holton's first Safety Director. For 23 years, he worked as an investigator for the State Alcohol Beverage Control. Following retirement in January of 1989, he worked for the City of Holton Police Department and later mowing and maintaining Holton City Parks.
Mr. Brock was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge AF & AM #42 both in Holton. He was also a member of Kansas Peace Officers Association.
He was married to Edna Argo on August 4, 1956 in Topeka, KS. She survives of the home. Bob is also survived by his sons, Stephen Brock of Topeka, KS, Clinton Brock (Kelly) of Holton, KS and Stanton Brock (Charlotte) of Olsburg, KS; his sister, Maxine Line of Cheyenne, Wyo.; his grandchildren, Justin Brock (Ashley), Janelle Fannin (Brad), Nikki Rinkes (Justin), Jared Brock (Annie), Matthew Brock (Alyssa) and Cody Brock; his great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Bodhi Brock and Carsen Rinkes.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in Holton Cemetery. Mr. Brock will lie in state beginning Monday at the funeral home.
