Robert Lee Britton, 88, of Soldier formerly of Topeka died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at a nursing home in Onaga, KS. Robert was born September 1, 1922 in Florence, KS. He was the son of John Joseph and Edith Lenora Winner Britton. Robert has lived in Soldier since 1986 and in Topeka prior to that.
Robert was an aide at the VA Hospital in Topeka for 18 years. He was a member of Soldier Christian Church and a former member of Central Park Christian Church in Topeka. Robert served in the Army during World War II. He was a POW from January 4, 1945 to April 12, 1945. He belonged to the American EX-POW and Disabled American Veterans.
Robert married Norma Rumold on August 1, 1948 in Topeka. She survives. He also survived by his foster daughters, Shirley Smith of Soldier and Julie Hyten of Topeka; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by a sister, Winona Ginavan and brothers, Howard, Clifford and Charles Britton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2010 at Soldier Christian Church. Burial will be in Soldier Cemetery.
