Wetmore—RJ Stedman, 71, of Wetmore, died Friday, May 12, 2006 at Holton. He was born June 6, 1934 in Blue Springs, NE, the son of Warren and Alice White Stedman. He had been a Maintenance Superintendent for oil companies in Libya, Alaska, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Mr. Stedman served in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of American Legion Post #282 at Wetmore.
He was married to Jean Holthaus on October 17, 1959 in Wetmore. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Shelley Stedman and her husband, Pat Redmond of Kent, CT and Lisa Yingling and her husband, Dick of Seldovia, AK, his son, Ben Stedman of Anchorage, AK, his sisters, Marian Pfrang of Goff, KS and Vernika Azure of Lisbon, ND, his brothers, Kelly Stedman of LaJunta, CO, Jerry Stedman of Brooklyn Center, MN, Harry Stedman of Sacramento, CA, K Stedman of Montclair, CA, Guy Stedman of McHenry, IL and Pearl Stedman of Goff, KS and his grandchildren, Patrick and Kathryn Redmond. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marcheta Arndt and brothers, Jimmie and D Stedman.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS. Interment will be in Wetmore Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Jackson County Friends of Hospice or American Legion Post #282 c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
