Richard William Akright, 85, of Circleville, KS passed away Friday, August 23, 2013 at Medicalodge in Holton. He was born April 12, 1928 in Birmingham, KS the son of Loyd and Clara Jane (Hedrick) Akright.
Richard married his high school sweetheart, Ramona Schooler on May 20, 1946 in Holton. After he graduated from Circleville High School, he farmed with his father for two years before moving to Omaha, NE to attend and graduate from an electronics school. He was employed by WIBW Radio, Overton Electric and Carroll Radio and T.V. Supply, covering his 40 year business career.
Richard and Ramona purchased the feed store in Circleville, September 4, 1951 and had celebrated their 50 years in business as Akright Farm Supply, prior to Ramona's passing on November 8, 2001. He was an active member of the Circleville Christian Church, serving as Elder for many years. He was an active member of Circleville Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and a member of the Holton Lions Club.
Richard is survived by his son, Gary Akright (Sandy) of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Stacy Erickson (Heath) of Frisco, TX and Mitchell Akright (Brooke) of New Town, PA and three great-grandchildren, Jack Erickson and Avery and Emersen Akright. Other survivors include his brother Cecil Akright (Jean) of Wichita, KS; brother and sister-in-laws, Garrel Schooler (Kathy), Gene Schooler, Mary Ferris (Eldon Ray). Ronald Schooler (Carol), Donald Schooler (Donna), Lois McPhail (Dennis) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Akright family expresses their gratitude to the Medicalodge team and Holton Hospice that cared for Dad these past few months. Our sincerest appreciation goes out to Mary Child and her family for their love and companionship to Dad for the past five years.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Circleville Christian Church. Burial will immediately follow at Circleville Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
