Raymond Duane Gantz, 80, of Greenfield, IA died Monday, July 10, 2006 in Dallas, OR. He was born April 9, 1926 in Glenrock, WY. He was the son of Deloyd and Laura Isaacs Gantz.
Raymond had a very interesting and diverse working career. He was an Aeronautical Engineer Structural Consultant; designing many of the aircraft still in use today, designed an in-flight projector, and in his later years designed and built homes for Pacific Coast Designs in Coronado Shores, OR. It was here that he met Donna his wife and working partner for the past 22 years. They moved to Greenfield, IA 3 years ago to be closer to family. A surprise 80th birthday was attended by family and friends in April of this year. He will be missed dearly by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that brought him a lot of joy in his last years.
Raymond went into the Navy during World War II and met Patricia Ann Swartz while on leave. They were married in December 1945. She preceded him in death in 1970. He later married Donna Pratt. She survives. Other survivors include children Richard Duane Gantz and his wife Sheila of Colorado, Michael Leroy Gantz and his wife Nancy of Washington, Gretchen Ann Gantz of Oregon, Douglas Eugene Gantz and his wife Sue of Wisconsin, Theresa Sue Robb and her husband of New Dehli, India; step-sons, Rick Pratt and his wife Dee of Oregon and Ron Pratt of Topeka; sisters, Betty Saubers and her husband Lou of Missouri and Charlene Gibson of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Margery Gantz of Holton; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, children, Georgia Jean Gantz and Robert Kevin Gantz; sister, Jeannie Gantz; brothers and sister-in-law, DeLoyd and Rose Gantz, George Gantz; brother-in-law, Ken Gibson.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2006 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to West Valley Hospital Foundation, PO Box 378, Dallas, OR 97338.
