ASHCRAFT
HOLTON-Raymond Richard Ashcraft, 100, formerly of Holton, died Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS. He was born May 11, 1906 in Atchison, KS the son of William C. and Liza Jane Saggs Ashcraft.
Raymond lived south of Arrington until age 16. He lived in Birmingham from 1948-2000. He later moved to Holton in 2000. He was a farmer and stockman for most of his life. He ran a road grader for Jackson County for 6 years, worked at Supply Depot for 6 years and was a self-employed carpenter for over 20 years.
He married Helen Meagher on October 9, 1929 in Holton. She died January 11, 2006. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters Virginia Stukenberg, Rosemary Meagher and a brother Bill Ashcraft.
Survivors include a son Norman Ashcraft and his wife Linda of Sabetha; 4 daughters Ruby Battey of Holton, Hazel Balthazor and her husband Bob of Topeka, Jean Marie Browne and her husband Florian of Topeka, Marilyn Wenk and her husband George of Birmingham; a sister, Louise Branam of Holton; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery.
