HOLTON – Ray Dean Hallauer, 78 of Holton, KS, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the Holton Community Hospital. He was born January 3, 1944 in Seneca, KS, the son of Frederic Wesley and Dorathea L. (Eulert) Hallauer.
He graduated from Whiting High School in 1962 and attended Clarks Business School in Topeka for drafting in 1965. Ray also served in the United States Army National Guard from 1963-1968.
On November 27, 1966, Ray was united in marriage to Marilyn "Sue" Martin in Meriden, KS. They shared over 55 years of marriage. To this union they shared 2 sons, Brian and Troy.
In Ray's early years he worked as a painter at Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka, KS. In 1982, he purchased Cattrell Oil Company which became Hallauer Oil Company. Ray, his wife Sue, owned and operated Hallauer Oil along with their sons for over 24 years. They sold the company in 2006. Ray continued working at the Jackson County Road and Bridge for over 15 years. Ray also enjoyed raising cattle and farming.
Ray was a member and Head Elder for over 35 years at the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was Treasurer for Muddy Creek Cemetery Board and he was also on the board of Tank Management Services in Topeka, KS.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife, Sue of the home; 2 sons, Brian Hallauer (Dana) of Topeka, KS and Troy Hallauer (Dawn) of Holton, KS; 3 sisters, Caryn Sheets (Larry) of Dover, KS, Judy Hamilton of Topeka, KS and Lucille Washburn of Millstadt, IL; 2 brothers, his twin brother, Roy Hallauer (Kay) of Holton, KS and Eric Hallauer (Becky) of Holton, KS; 2 grandchildren, Gracelyn and Benett; 4 step-grandchildren; and 4 great step-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joan Martin.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton, KS. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Ray will lie in state Thursday, February 3, 2022 and Friday, February 4, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be given to the Hallauer Grandchildren Educational Fund c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
