WENGER
HOLTON – Rapheal Clarence Wenger, 90, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at The Homestead Assisted Living in Topeka, where he had resided since 2006. He was born May 10, 1918 in Powhattan, KS, the son of John and Caroline Widman Wenger.
He grew up in Powhattan and graduated from Powhattan High School in 1937 and in 1942 he joined the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and raised cattle. He worked for Grundeman Construction for many years, and later for the Holton School District as a bus driver retiring in 1983. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton. He also served on the Jackson County Nursing Home board.
Rafe married Dorothy Fern Chadwell on March 3, 1945 in Brigham, UT. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2006. He was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Marie Holt and her husband, Alan of Topeka; a son, Delaine Wenger and his wife, Carrie of Gardner; a brother, Louis Wenger of Hiawatha; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church. A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Powhattan Cemetery in Powhattan, KS. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
