Obituary

Phyllis Jean Hinkle, 80, of Wetmore passed away Thursday December 30, 2010 at Hiawatha Community Hospital.
Phyllis was born December 30, 1930 in Goff, the daughter of Melvin Howard and Ida Ella Fuhrer Spiker. She graduated from Wetmore High School in 1948. Phyllis worked for Slimaker Dress Factory. She then worked for JBN Telephone in Wetmore for 17 years then at Jones Kennels for 10 years. Phyllis also worked and volunteered for the National Park Service. She was a past member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Goff. Phyllis was a Member of the Wetmore United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Wetmore American Legion Auxiliary.
Phyllis married Jewell Allen Hinkle on June 7, 1948 at the Wetmore United Methodist Church Parsonage. Jewell preceded her in death on May 21, 2010. She was also preceded by a daughter, Edith Ann Hinkle, a son, Steven Allen Hinkle; a sister, Martha Jordan; a brother, Melvin "Pete" Spiker and two granddaughters, Julie Ann Jones and Lisa Nicole Latham. Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Connie (Donald) Jones of Topeka and Cathy (John) Latham of Wetmore; sisters, Josephine Meyer of Wetmore and Melba Ash of Norfolk, VA; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2010 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be at Wetmore Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Wetmore United Methodist Women or Wetmore American Legion Auxiliary c/o Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 270 Holton, KS 66436.
