Pearl Margeurite Flory, 91, Valley Falls, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Village Villa Care Center in Nortonville.
She was born on Aug. 30, 1919, at Grand Island, NE, the daughter of August M. and Leota Pearl Harden Gontz. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1937. Pearl was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church and the U & I Club. After her retirement, she had worked in several area restaurants.
She married George Elvin Flory on Feb. 12, 1938, in Topeka. They farmed in the Coal Creek Community north of Valley Falls. Mr. Flory died on April 24, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Flory on Aug. 28, 1960, a brother, James Calvin Gontz, a sister, Elsie Page, and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Romesburg, in 2001.
Survivors include a son, Donald (Jenny) Flory, Valley Falls; two daughters, June (Paul) Long, Meriden, and Ruth (Ed) Prather, Oskaloosa; a sister, Eileen Acheson, Effingham; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Coal Creek Cemetery.
