SLATTERY
MAYETTA- Paul W. Slattery, 70, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. He was born March 16, 1937 in Mayetta, KS, the son of Cornelius "Neil" and Julia Cochren Slattery. He was a lifelong member of the Mayetta community, except for the time he spent in the military.
He graduated from Mayetta High School in 1954. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma City 7th Fleet. He was a computer technician for IBM for 17 years, Santa Fe for 13 years and Hitachi for 5 years. He also worked for 10 years at Good Year Tire Co. He attended the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, both in Mayetta. He carried the "Message of Hope" for suffering alcoholics. He also loved hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He married Helen Jerome on November 30, 1963 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter Cathy Forgy and her husband B.J. of Mayetta; 3 grandchildren Jessie, Jason and Jessica Forgy; a sister Pat Cummings of Topeka and many nieces and nephews, all who loved him dearly.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hoyt. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton followed by visitation. Memorials may be given to the Paul Slattery Memorial Fund to be designated by the family sent to Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
