Paul Douglas Simons, 67 departed this life peacefully surrounded by family on June 1, 2022. Paul was born February 2, 1955, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of Harry A. and Marie A. (Thompson) Simons. Paul graduated Valley Falls High School in 1973 and later attended Washburn University. In 1981, he married Jo Jackson in Valley Falls.
In his early years, he installed carpet with his brother-in-law, Bob Carter, and later worked for several carpet companies as an inside sales person before eventually becoming a territory manager for Shaw Industries.
Paul was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved hunting, golf, college basketball (die-hard KU fan), the Chiefs, and spending time with friends and family. He especially loved playing with his grandchildren, Braxton and Bristol.
Paul is survived by his wife Jo; three sons, Drew, Jarrod (Josh Coulter), and Bryce (Brandi) of Topeka; six sisters, Sue Ann (Bob) Carter, Peggy (Tom) Burns, Carolyn (Mike) Hilbert, Lorraine (Gary) Gentry, Candace (Ron) Watson and Mary Kay Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Marthanne Simons. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Also dear to his heart are Amy, Lauren, and Luke Leiker. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Eddie, Jimmy and Roger.
A private family burial will take place at the Valley Falls Cemetery. A Celebration of Paul's Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, July 8, 2022 at the Bettis Family Event Center (3025 S.E. Croco Road, Topeka, KS 66605). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Falls Scholarship Association or North Topeka Outreach Operation Backpack c/o Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
